ASET

GATE vs ASET: What's the Difference?
GATE is the Gifted and Talented Education program in Western Australia. ASET — the Academic Selective Entrance Test — is the exam your child sits to gain entry into it. They are not the same thing, though the two terms are often used interchangeably.
GATE is the Program
The Gifted and Talented Education program is offered at select WA schools providing an accelerated curriculum alongside peers of similar academic ability. The most well-known GATE school is Perth Modern School, but the program also includes Shenton College, Willetton Senior High School, and a number of other schools across Perth offering selective programs.
ASET is the Test
The Academic Selective Entrance Test sat in March. It is the competitive exam used to rank students for placement.
The Relationship
Your child sits the ASET (the test) to gain entry into GATE (the program).
